MADRID (AP) — The world’s top female chess player has given up her last game to protest being paired against mostly female players at a major tournament where male contestants outnumbered them.
This is not the first time a female grandmaster challenged gender equity in this traditionally male-dominated arena. Susan Polgar, the Hungarian-American chess player, has been advocating for women’s roles in chess for years. In 1986, Ms. Polgar became the first women in history to qualify for the Men’s World Championship in 1986, which led the Federation to change its policy and admit women players in the game.
The trick to winning a large number of points in the shortest possible time is to create long chains to obtain greater bonuses. Creating a chain consisting of four jewels will result in a glowing gem on the board. Once this glowing gem too is matched in a chain, a bunch of gems surrounding the glowing gem will be destroyed and your points tally will see a big increase. A five gem chain is the biggest chain that you can create. This move results in a super gem being created which, if matched in a three jewel chain, will destroy all the gems on the board. Large chains apart, a combo will also help you increase your points. A combo is created when the creation of a single chain leads to realignment of the position of other gems into chains without any additional moves.
The King’s Indian Attack is an unusual opening in the fact that it is really called the same thing regardless of what black plays. Notice though how white sets up their pieces behind the lines very systematically and the setup really leaves white with no weaknesses although it isn’t particularly ambitious. White will establish their solid structure after these moves and then play on the flanks. It isn’t really considered a great opening but some very strong players like Bobby Fischer have played it with success so it isn’t a terrible opening either.
The only additional work the DVD replication business is required to do is to downsize the video master into a You Tube ready format and then split the video into 10 minute segments. The video segments could be entitled as follows to facilitate easy access to the film.
The original chess set from the Isle of Lewis has 78 pieces in all, carved in Morse ivory (Walrus tusk) which is thought to belong to eight or more incomplete chess sets. Experts are unanimous in declaring them the most astonishing collection of ancient chessmen in existence. The British Museum now houses 67 of these. The remainder is in the Edinburgh National Museum.
Probably the most common opening for the person playing white is the Kings Pawn opening. This is where the player playing white moves the pawn in front of the king 2 squares forward. Of course, this opening is also dependent on the response from the player playing black. If he moves his king’s pawn 2 spaces in response, then this is a true king’s pawn opening. But, if he moves his queen’s bishop’s pawn 2 squares forward in response, then what you now have is what is called a Sicilian Opening. And there are variations of this opening depending on the moves that follow.
