Newcastle United and Its Funny Moments
Newcastle United has had shared of the news in years and some of them good and some, bad.
Rafa Benitez is the current manager of Newcastle United and he is one of the best managers in Europe today. Under his management, it seems that everything is fine with the team. Now the fans can simply laugh at the occurrences that have happened before, embarrassing perhaps, but laughable at present. The past blunders can put a smile in fans’ lips although quite embarrassing in its context.
Alan Pardew is not new to the headlines; he has been in it many times in the past. These headlines vary from the brilliant, to the dreadful, and to the downright hilarious. Pardew is always involved in controversy but this is the worst of it all. It was the match with Hull City when Pardew head-butter Hull midfielder David Meyler. A fine of ?100,000 by Newcastle United, and ?60,000 by the FA was meted out to Pardew for the head-butt!
One of the football lols of Premier League’s history was when two players of their team squared up, which happened to Lee Bowyer and Kierton Dyer. The normal thing is that players of one team square up with players of the opposing team. It is common for opposing players to fight. But Dyer and Bowyer were both playing for the Toon Army at the time. After the fight, the two players received red cards from being violent. That was bad enough, but they also eventually lost to Aston Villa at home with a score of 3 – 0.
Fans believe that Sunderland is no match to Newcastle United especially at home. But they lost 3 – 0 to the team at home. And there is this one fan who took it very seriously and took it out on a poor police horse called Bud. Barry Rogerson, the fan, 45 years old, proceeded to taunt that horse and punched its head. He was then sentenced to a year in jail for this stupid actions. There will be worse years to follow for this humiliation.
Truth be told, Newcastle United has had some very poor managers in their time, but Joe Kinnear is pretty much the worst. Funny events were attributed to Kinnear which were actually terrible events in reality. And, the funniest of them all was when he tried to sign his own player. The event took place during the League Cup game between Swansea and Birmingham. Shane Ferguson, a Newcastle player, was then on loan with the Brummies. It was a great game that he play where he dominated the midfield. When Kinnear saw him play, he was impressed and said that he was going to sign Ferguson. The press though it was a joke but they soon realized that he didn’t know that Ferguson is a Newcastle player on loan. This is funny indeed!
